Field guide to Vaniso

Disposable private rooms for chat and file sharing. Nothing survives.

  1. 1 - Create a room

    Enter your name, optionally name the room, and hit Summon. As a guest your room lives 5 minutes; signed in, 30 minutes.

  2. 2 - Choose the door

    Knock = approval mode: anyone opening your link asks to enter, and you approve or reject each person.
    Whisper = password mode: anyone who types the shared password gets in instantly.

  3. 3 - Invite people

    Every room gets a 6-letter code (the sigil) and a link - share either one, even out loud. When someone is let in, a member's browser hands them the room's decryption key directly, encrypted just for them. Joiners don't need an account.

  4. 4 - Chat and share

    Real-time chat, plus files and images up to 10 MB each (the paperclip button). People who join late see the full history.

  5. It's encrypted end-to-end

    Messages and files are encrypted in your browser before they ever leave it. The key never touches our servers - not even the URL: it passes directly from one member's browser to the next, sealed for that person alone, when they're let in. Nobody outside the room can read it, including us. If every member loses their key, it's gone - there's no copy anywhere to recover.

  6. 5 - It ends, completely

    When the countdown hits zero - or when the creator presses Vanish - the room and everything in it (messages, files, member list) is permanently erased. There is no undo and no recovery. That's the point.

What is Vaniso?

Vaniso is a free self-destructing chat room service. You summon a disposable, end-to-end encrypted room without creating an account, share its 6-letter code, chat and swap files - and the whole room permanently deletes itself minutes later.

How long does a room last?

5 minutes for anonymous summoners, 30 minutes if you sign in. The creator can also vanish the room instantly at any moment. Either way, everything in it is permanently erased.

Can Vaniso read my messages or files?

No. Messages and files are encrypted in your browser before they are sent, and the encryption key passes directly from a member's browser to yours when you are let in. It never touches our servers or even the invite link, so the server only ever stores ciphertext.

Do I need an account or an app?

No signup and no install. Vaniso runs entirely in the browser, on desktop and mobile. Signing in is optional and only extends your rooms from 5 to 30 minutes.

How do people join my room?

Share the room's 6-letter sigil code or its link. Rooms are gated by a knock (you approve each joiner) or a whisper (a shared password lets anyone straight in).

Can I share files privately?

Yes. Files up to 10 MB are end-to-end encrypted like messages - even the filename is encrypted - and they are deleted forever when the room vanishes.

What happens when a room vanishes?

The room, its messages, files, and member list are permanently deleted from our servers. There is no archive, no history, and no way to recover anything.

What is Vaniso good for?

Sharing a password or secret without leaving it in email or Slack forever, one-off private conversations, quick anonymous group chats, or sending a sensitive file that should not outlive the moment.
